Local restaurants vie for the title of Boss Hogg while you indulge in the tastiest sweet AND savory bacon recipes this side of the Mississippi!
Bacon, oh boy, bacon! No longer just a simple breakfast food, this mouth-watering meat is now in a class all its own – and one with a cult-like following! From fast food to gourmet, and savory to sweet, this delicious delicacy can be found everywhere. America’s new love affair with bacon is what inspired the Baconfest movement, and we are bringing this unique, and delicious experience to hundreds of bacon-loving Tulsans, at the first annual Baconfest Tulsa, on Sunday September 29th, 2013!
Baconfest Tulsa is an outdoor, event that will feature small plates and tastes of bacon-based cuisine, sweets and beverages from some of Tulsa’s finest (and most creative) chefs, bakers, and baristas, all competing for the title of Boss Hog of BaconFest Tulsa 2013! Along with their all-inclusive tasting pass, guests will receive goodie bags filled with vendor specials, recipes and bacon themed swag. They can also compete for titles and prizes of their own in our amateur bacon cooking contest, bacon haiku contest, and bacon look-a-like contest yes, we said bacon look-a-like contest.
Best of all, Baconfest is a benefit! Sponsorships and entry fees go towards much needed capital improvements for one of Tulsa’s most dynamic independent arts organizations, the Nightingale Theater and Midwestern Theater Troupe. For over a decade, the Nightingale Theater, a 501-(c) (3) non-profit arts facility, has provided Tulsa’s only independent theater venue – a unique, vital, and indispensable local resource for theater arts.

You don’t even have to be a reader to enjoy yesterday’s gruesome executions, murders, crimes of passion or foul play; all you need are your ears (and $10 lousy bucks). We’re teaming up with some of Tulsa’s top troubadours to bring you an evening of graphic, tragic, shocking, torrid, passionate, and lethal ballads in a traditional style as a benefit to our beloved Nightingale Theater!

“Nurture” is a pitch-black, sharp-edged comedy about the awkward courtship of two single parents, Cheryl and Doug (Sara and John Cruncleton). Their clumsiness in romance is matched only by their questionable parenting skills – though self-aware enough to recognize their own damage, they can’t help but mold their children after the pattern of their own fears. The play begins in familiar sitcom territory, except there are more real laughs per minute than the average tv fodder. Ruthlessly, one line at a time, the laughs lead down into a disquieting absurdist unreality worthy of Durang (if Durang had a soul to match his wit). Remarkably, though the play delves deep into the fears – even horrors – of parenthood, sex, love, and loathing, it somehow ends up in a hopeful, accepting place. It’s also very much not safe for children. This is grown-up theater of a speed, energy and caliber hard to find in Tulsa outside the Nightingale.
